MRI Auction Structures
Commission Auctions
The Commission Based Auction is the most basic and straightforward type of auction. In a commission auction, MRI charges a percentage of the gross sales amount, called a buyer’s premium, to the purchaser. The client receives the gross sales proceeds less a pre-negotiated fee to cover expenses, such as: advertising, promotion, setup, on-site/online sales operations and labor costs. Although it is the most straightforward auction structure, the client will assume certain risk.
Guaranteed Auctions
We realize that some clients prefer the assurance of receiving a guaranteed amount for their assets. With a Guaranteed Auction, MRI will guarantee you a minimum net return for the sale of the
equipment. All proceeds above the guarantee will then be used to cover expenses with the remainder being divided between the client and MRI, as previously negotiated. No auction is ever risk
free, but with a Guaranteed Auction, MRI assumes the majority of the risk while allowing for the client to participate in the potential upside.
Cash Purchase
In a Cash Purchase Auction, MRI purchases the client’s assets prior to auction. In accordance to a Cash Purchase, MRI will be allowed to use the premises for approximately 60 to 90 days, so
that we may conduct an auction. Upon choosing a Cash Purchase instead of co-hosting an auction, the client will receive an upfront deposit with the remaining balance to be paid in full, the day of the auction. With a Cash Purchase, the client assumes no risk and has no interest in the auction’s outcome.
